The Last Hartigan

Tess & Rory’s story

Tess Hartigan has read every guestbook at the Salt & Heather back to 1923. She has never read anything like Tuesday.

Coming soon

Every week, somebody writes a few lines in the section for guests. No name, no room number. Just the light on the harbour, a heron on the slip, the goat eating a Coast Guard leaflet.

Tess is determined to find out who. So she asks the one man in Kilmurrin who knows everybody’s handwriting: Rory Gallagher, the shy postman who comes in the back door every morning and whose ears go red whenever she says his name.

He agrees to help.

There is only one problem. Rory has a job offer in Athlone, the village post office is closing, and he is the last person Tess would ever think to suspect.

Some people have been writing to you all along.
